Hello,

We'd like to go to Hawaii (not 100% sure where, open to ideas) in either January, Feb, or March 2012. Is one month cheaper than the other? Where is the best place to go? We want to go somewhere that we can either walk to a lot of attractions/things to do or rent a car.

It seems all the flights I search for are between $2000-3000 for 2 of us.

If you don't want to rent a car, I would definitely recommend going to Honolulu on Oahu. Personally, Maui is my favorite island, but you defintiely need to rent a car to get around. Even in the hotel zones, there is only so much you can see without renting a car. Honolulu is pretty much the only spot in Hawaii where there is a large enough tourist zone where you can walk to everything. However, Honolulu, and Waikiki beach in particualr are also usually the most crowded areas. If you can afford it, I would definitely recommend renting a car at least for a day or two and getting out of the tourist zones to some of the less crowded beaches. There are so many to explore in Hawaii, it would be a shame to limit yourself to just one or two within walking distance of your hotel.

As for time of year, January is generally cheaper than February or March. Watch out for University/college reading weeks in late February and early March that tend to drive the prices up.
