Archie's work is amazing. A local recommended it to us last week. Long line up but worth the wait.

My husband and I go to a restaurant called 100% Naturel on 5th av every single trip!
They have/had a pineapple shrimp dish that my husband is in love with - they cook & serve it up right in the fresh pineapple. So good!

Check out the website Everything Playa Del Carmen. It has great tips for every budget and has restaurants, taco stands, things to see/do, etc. We reference this site often and have found some great places. There is a place called La Jungla which is awesome on 10Ave around 50th st or so.

El Fogon on Constituentes across from Mega. Authentic open air Mexican restaurant with good food and good prices.

El Fogon
This unassuming, family-run restaurant is a local favorite, known for its delicious and affordable tacos. El Fogon offers a wide variety of taco fillings, including traditional options like pastor (marinated pork), chorizo, and lengua (beef tongue), as well as vegetarian choices. Don't miss their homemade salsas, which perfectly complement the flavors of the tacos.
Los Aguachiles
If you're a seafood lover, Los Aguachiles is a must-visit. This cozy restaurant specializes in aguachile, a Mexican dish similar to ceviche but with a spicier and more intense flavor. Choose from a variety of fresh seafood, such as shrimp, octopus, or fish, and enjoy the tantalizing combination of lime juice, chili peppers, and herbs.
El Griyo
For an authentic Yucatecan dining experience, head to El Griyo. This hidden gem offers a wide range of regional specialties, including cochinita pibil (slow-roasted pork), sopa de lima (lime soup), and panuchos (fried tortillas topped with refried beans, shredded chicken or turkey, and avocado). The cozy ambiance and friendly staff make it a great place to immerse yourself in the local culture.
La Cueva del Chango
Located in the heart of Playa del Carmen, La Cueva del Chango is a quirky and vibrant restaurant that serves up delicious Mexican fare in a colorful, cave-like setting. Don't miss their signature dish, the molcajete, a sizzling stone bowl filled with a medley of grilled meats, vegetables, and melted cheese. The lively atmosphere and live music add to the overall dining experience.
These are just a few of the many local gems in Playa del Carmen. Exploring the local food scene is one of the best ways to truly experience the rich culture and flavors of this vibrant destination.
