Love this card. $70K individual income or $120K family. Great card if you travel a lot with WJ and you get your first checked bag free, regardless of fare you book. The companion fare is a great feature, we use it every year!

We have the westjet Mastercard. We've used it for flights to Cuba earlier this year, with no blackouts. We had enough WJ dollars to pay for my husband's flight (he's the cardholder, I have an additional card), then put the balance of WJ dollars toward my companion flight. Two of us flew to Cuba for about $425. The low cost companion flights ($99 in Canada/continental US, $299 to Hawaii, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, and $399 to Europe) renews on your anniversary date, so you get them once/year. You pay the taxes, fees and charges,We put everything on that card then pay off, to accumulate WJ dollars for the first flight.. Annual fee of $149 I believe for 2 cards. If you fly westjet a lot, it's worth it, IMO.

If you don't use your companion flight does it roll over to the next year?

No, you only get one in your 'bank' so to speak. They expire within the year.

Westjet.com and the RBC info say it's $299 to Hawaii, Mexico and Caribbean etc... you mentioned $199, do they offer that depending if you use westjet points in combo?

We are trying Alaska Air World Elite MasterCard out now. 25,000 points once you activate card and put $1000 on the card in 90 days (enough for a round trip to many locations) plus a yearly $99 companion and Hawaii is inc. westjet charges $299 for the Hawaii companion I think? Our friends highly recommended this one, so we figured we would try it.. westjet would have been choice #2.

We had this one but you have to buy the Alaskan flights in US dollars and with the dollar not doing well- the conversion plus taxes is quite a bit- almost the same as westjet in the end. We have TD infinite- but looking what else is out there...

Depends on flight deals too though, a lot of the times it's much lower with Alaska Air, conversion inc. The better deal might be in the companion fares (w return) for about $155 CAD tax inc to almost anywhere on their itinerary w/no blackouts, where westjet is $299 CAD to places like Hawaii or Mexico etc. But we are in the honeymoon phase so we will need more time to get a true comparison.

westjet MasterCard Elte we each have one ( hubby& me). We can each have I companion fare a year to travel anywhere WJ flies. Free baggage too!

We were using the Avion, decent card, main issue is that you have to book your travel through their booking system, which I've tested, and does NOT always find the flight or hotel you are looking for. For this reason we've switched to the Capital One Aspire Travel World Elite Card. It get's 2% on all purchases, all the same benefits, but you book your travel in whatever way you want and then use the points to get paid back. I would say they have equivalent point value, but more flexibility

Scotia Amex Gold; 4x points on Groceries, restaurants and gas. I would switch to Amex gold for the 1:1 aeroplan redemption, but who knows what's going to happen with aeroplan in 2020

I have that one too - and travel insurance is included - bonus if you travel a lot !

I do and just booked flights to Europe, the best possible times with only one connection in Toronto, no restrictions!

I love my Avion card. I love the option of using points to pay the taxes on my flights.

Love avion also. Always got the flights I wanted.

westjet MasterCard. It can only be used for westjet flights but they fly a lot of places.

I agree, super easy to redeem the points on anything travel related for whatever amount you want.

RBC Wesjet- you can collect hundreds of dollars towards flights within a year

So far pretty happy with BMO World Elite Mastercard, and RBC westjet Mastercard as well.

We just moved away from BMO Elite. Had major issues with them on our 5 week trip to Italy in April. Their search engine for travel items sucks, the hotels are either ridiculously expensive or on cheap crappy end. The car rental was expensive and terrible (gave us 2 different pick up locations) and when we complained to them refused to do anything about. We lost 200 euro because of them.
I believe it was good at one time, but not so much anymore.

I really like my TD infinite and their agreement with Expedia.

I agree with Erin. I can use my points for anything travel related including car rentals, hotels and flights (any airline). I can also apply points to admission tickets (Think Disneyland). I've checked out a lot of cards and this was the best fit for me.

I have this card as well. Triple points when you book through the TDExpedia website. Points seem to accumulate at a decent pace. My only gripe is that you can only use your travel points with expedia, which from my experience, doesn't always have the greatest prices.

You can book off of any travel site and use your points. You just have to call Visa after the purchase is made and have them use the points. I have done this on a number of occasions.

JJ Young you can also use that card to take money balance off your card booked through any site up to three months back I believe. Just have to call.
