I recommend you take me with you. In your suitcase. I don't care where we stay, tbh.

We stayed in Monterosso as well and ferried back and forth to the other towns. Our airbnb rental was perched on a hill but walking distance to all of Monterosso. It had 2 decks which overlooked the entire Cinque Terre....gorgeous! If you are driving they also had parking which many places don't provide.

We stayed in Riomaggiore, which if I remember correctly is the biggest of the five villages without being as touristy as Monterosso Al Mare. Will see if I can find the details for Franca, the lady who ran our hotel. We were there in 2010 & it's one of the most beautiful places in the world!

The hotel is called Locanda Della Compagnia: http://dallacompa.com/en/. I don't imagine Franca still runs the place but she was great! Well-known within the community, we had a guy ask us at the train station if we were looking for a place to stay, & as soon as I told him the name of our hotel, he replied "Ah Franca! It's this way..." Loved the Cinque Terre!

We stayed at Hotel La Spiaggia, Monterosso al Mare and the owner, Andrea Poggi was amazing! He personally booked us dinner reservations every night at the best restaurants, and he knows a ton of people throughout the five towns and gives the best recommendations of how to get places, where to go, what to do. Plus the hotel is right on the beach! Check out their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/hotelaspiaggia/

I don't have a recommendation of a place to stay but I would suggest staying in monterosso- north end of the trek, easier to do the walk and then take the train or boat back. We've been over 10 years ago and rented a room from a BB.

We used vrbo and rented a 2 bedroom apartment right in old town of monterossso. Was very reasonable for a family if 4. Check air b n b Depending on what time of year , people post rooms for rent right in town as well.
