It's cheaper to buy train tickets in advance, if possible. Buying them as you go will generally cost more.

Only get the pass if you KNOW you’re going to use lots of train journeys , over long distances. Otherwise it’s cheaper to just buy the train tickets one at a time. Trains through France, Germany, and Switzerland will be really expensive but in Spain/Italy/other European countries they are a lot cheaper. PM Me if you have more questions! I’ve done Europe with the Eurail pass and without.

Every time I math it out it’s cheaper to buy point to point, but in advance. Unless you are doing insane amount of train travel, it doesn’t usually end up worth it.

I’ve heard in the past...
for example if your travelling through the UK
it’s cheaper to buy Britrail prior to arrival online

Traveling Europe: Euro Train Pass vs. Point to Point Tickets
Hello everyone,
My family of 5 will be traveling to Europe in mid-April for three weeks and we are trying to decide whether to purchase the Euro train pass or buy point to point tickets while we are there.
Euro Train Pass
The Euro train pass is a convenient option for travelers who plan on taking multiple train journeys throughout Europe. It allows for unlimited travel within a certain number of days or a specific period of time. This can be a cost-effective option if you plan on traveling to multiple cities and countries during your trip.
Point to Point Tickets
On the other hand, purchasing point to point tickets can be a better option if you have a specific itinerary and know exactly which cities you will be visiting. This allows for more flexibility and can sometimes be cheaper than buying a Euro train pass.
Considerations
When deciding between the Euro train pass and point to point tickets, consider the following factors:
- Number of cities you plan on visiting
- Frequency of train travel
- Duration of your trip
- Cost comparison between the two options
It may be beneficial to research the train schedules and ticket prices for the specific routes you plan on taking to determine which option is best for your family.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the decision between purchasing a Euro train pass or point to point tickets ultimately depends on your travel plans and budget. If you plan on traveling extensively throughout Europe, the Euro train pass may be a convenient and cost-effective option. However, if you have a specific itinerary and prefer flexibility, point to point tickets may be the better choice.
Safe travels!
