Huatulco my paradise. Friends are there now. Secrets is the only Adults Only resort in Huatulco.
Weather there is always hot hot
& dry. The entire area is very laid back like Mexico
25 years ago.More Mexican Nationals & Canadians than US tourists.
If you stay @ Secrets the next Bay over La Bocana offers mud baths. An awesome experience.

Sherry when you go pay extra for jr suite. Ocean view balcony with separate bedroom. I’ve been to ixtapa since and Pv. Will not go anywhere in Mexico again. Huatulco is my place. Perfect weather, clean and safe

I hear ya. Huatulco was designated a tourist zone the same time Cancun/ Riviera Maya 25+ years ago. It just didn’t take off like the Caribbean side .So it still offers the laid back old Mexico vibe. The locals say very little crime. They say that will change when the double lane highway thru the mountains brings the cartels !
I often travel solo. Huatulco is the only place I feel safe to be out & about unescorted
I went back to Riviera Maya Playa del Carmen area Feb 2020 after 5 yrs of Huatulco. Tourist/ commercial overload & escalating cartel violence.

Sherry don’t be fooled in Huatulco…. Friends of ours were held up by thieves wielding machetes on a path hiking to a beach a few years ago. Don’t get me wrong - I love Huatulco and felt very safe walking at night on my own - until this happened…. Granted it was to an isolated spot but one we had hiked several times before over the years - never again…. We haven’t been back since so hopefully an isolated incident but just beware!

Sandra this can happen anywhere. Canada included. I wouldn’t venture the bike paths where I live in the middle of the day!

Leona agree! It was just a good reminder for us as we were getting too comfortable thinking it was a “safe” area. I see you were at a resort which is a totally different experience than us being in a condo and hiking paths to isolated beaches.

I am dying to get back to Huatulco but have noticed that the direct flights are very rare these days or very expensive. Did the routes that used to fly there stop? I believe they were run by sunwing and other vacation package providers in the past.

Profile picture of Sherry

Nicole Direct Flights to Huatulco were seasonal. Pre COVID.They didn’t usually start til late Nov or early Dec. sunwing was Tuesday only &west jet was flying twice sat & one weekday
air canada rouge only direct out of Toronto.
You may find seasonal directs out of Edmonton.
It is hard to say what will happen this year. Flights may be combined or cancelled if there isn’t sufficient demand.
Right now Canadian airlines have codeshare with aeromexico connecting thru Mexico City.
Flights only( no hotel )to Huatulco have always been $900. + in high season.

Nicole Huatulco doesn’t draw like PVR or Cancun or Cabo ! So it is low priority for Canadian Charters to service.Even if they book. They may end up cancelling or combining flights.
I love Huatulco but this season it will be wait & see.
You could try booking on west jet vacations or sunwing online for Edmonton or YYC & see what comes up.
You may find that there may only be directs out Toronto (the centre of the universe !
I just play around multiple dates/ providers til I find what I want. Must be careful with that you have to know the direct flight time as it doesn’t always show connections. If you are flying out of Vancouver even though it is on the west coast air canada will fly you via Toronto !

Secrets Huatulco: A Slice of Paradise

Secrets Huatulco Resort & Spa is a luxurious adults-only all-inclusive haven nestled in the stunning bays of Huatulco, Mexico. Having recently returned from a trip, I'm excited to share my thoughts and recommendations for anyone considering this beautiful resort.

My Thoughts on Secrets Huatulco

From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the impeccable service and the breathtaking ocean views. The resort's design beautifully incorporates the natural surroundings, creating a tranquil and romantic atmosphere. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, always going the extra mile to ensure our comfort.

The all-inclusive aspect was truly all-inclusive. Premium drinks, delicious food at a variety of restaurants, and engaging activities were all readily available. We never felt pressured to spend extra, which allowed us to truly relax and enjoy our vacation.

Recommendations for Your Stay

  • Preferred Club Upgrade: While the standard rooms are lovely, consider upgrading to the Preferred Club for access to a private lounge, upgraded amenities, and a dedicated beach area. It's worth the extra splurge.
  • Explore the Bays: Huatulco boasts nine beautiful bays. Take a boat tour or rent a kayak to explore them. Snorkeling and diving opportunities are also abundant.
  • Sample the Local Cuisine: While the resort restaurants are excellent, venture into the town of La Crucecita to experience authentic Oaxacan cuisine.
  • Relax and Unwind: Take advantage of the resort's spa, infinity pools, and serene beach. It's the perfect place to disconnect and recharge.

Favorite Huatulco Spots

Within the Resort:

  • The Seaside Grill: Perfect for lunch with stunning ocean views.
  • The Preferred Club Pool: Quiet and relaxing with excellent service.
  • The Spa: Indulge in a rejuvenating massage or treatment.

Outside the Resort:

  • Bahia Maguey: Calm waters ideal for swimming and snorkeling.
  • La Crucecita: A charming town with local shops and restaurants.
  • Coffee Plantation Tour: Learn about the process of growing and roasting coffee beans.

Overall, Secrets Huatulco exceeded our expectations. It's a fantastic destination for couples looking for a luxurious and romantic getaway. I highly recommend it and hope you enjoy your trip as much as we did!
