You'll like the food in general, and they really do a nice job with BBQ meats and seafood. Stick to bottled water, pop and liquor, and you might want to be careful with fruit.

We booked there December 10-17

Riu Cancun: A Tropical Getaway Review
Hey everyone!
I saw a question about the Riu Cancun and since I've been there a couple of times, I thought I'd share my experience to help you prepare for your January trip!
Location, Location, Location!
Riu Cancun's location is definitely a highlight. It's situated right in the heart of Cancun's Hotel Zone, offering stunning views of the turquoise Caribbean Sea. You're within walking distance of shopping malls, restaurants, and nightlife. Plus, the hotel's beachfront location is perfect for those lazy beach days.
Rooms with a View (and some quirks!)
The rooms are generally comfortable and clean, with most offering beautiful ocean views. They're a bit on the older side and could use some updating in terms of decor, but they're well-maintained. We did find the liquor dispenser in the room a bit of a novelty, and it wasn't always restocked consistently. Just a heads-up!
Food Glorious Food (mostly!)
The food at Riu Cancun is a mixed bag. The buffet offers a wide variety of options, but the quality can be a bit hit-or-miss. Some dishes were fantastic, while others were bland. We particularly enjoyed the Asian and Italian themed restaurants. Be sure to make reservations for the a la carte restaurants as soon as you arrive, they fill up quickly! One small gripe - the lack of readily available snacks between meals.
Poolside Paradise
The pool area is a real highlight! There are multiple pools to choose from, including a swim-up bar. The atmosphere is lively, with plenty of activities and entertainment throughout the day. Be warned though, finding a lounge chair, especially in peak season, can be a challenge. Get out there early to stake your claim!
Entertainment and Activities
The entertainment team at Riu Cancun is fantastic! They work tirelessly to keep guests entertained with games, activities, and nightly shows. Whether you're looking to participate in water aerobics, learn some salsa moves, or just relax by the pool, there's something for everyone.
Overall Impression
Overall, Riu Cancun is a good option for an all-inclusive vacation. The location is fantastic, the pools are great, and the entertainment is top-notch. While the food isn't gourmet, there's enough variety to satisfy most palates. Just manage your expectations about the rooms and be prepared for a lively, sometimes crowded, atmosphere.
Have a fantastic trip in January! Feel free to ask if you have any more questions.
Cheers,
A Fellow Traveler
