All the shopping malls will be so beautiful, some of the gardens will illuminate with thousands of lights which are well planned, but remember Japan is all about partying during Christmas, if you are still in Japan during New Years that is more traditional things that you can experience.

Heading to Japan at Xmas! What are the not to miss sites at this time of year pls?
Japan during the Christmas season is a magical experience, blending traditional Japanese culture with festive Western traditions. Whether you're seeking enchanting illuminations, vibrant markets, or unique seasonal experiences, Japan has plenty to offer. Here are some not-to-miss sites and events to make the most of your Christmas in Japan:
1. Illumination Displays
Japan is renowned for its spectacular illumination displays, and during the holiday season, many parks and gardens transform into dazzling wonderlands. Some of the most impressive displays include:
- Ashikaga Flower Park (Tochigi Prefecture): Known for its stunning wisteria tunnels, this park hosts an incredible "Winter Fantasia" illumination event, featuring millions of LED lights.
- Nabana no Sato (Mie Prefecture): This sprawling flower park boasts an incredible "Nabana no Sato Winter Illumination" event, with breathtaking light displays and illuminated tunnels.
- Tokyo Midtown (Tokyo): Located in the heart of Tokyo, this commercial complex hosts a dazzling illumination event with a massive Christmas tree and intricate light displays.
2. Christmas Markets
While not as prevalent as in Europe, Japan has embraced the tradition of Christmas markets, offering a unique blend of Japanese and Western holiday traditions. Some popular markets include:
- Tokyo Christmas Market (Tokyo): Held in the Roppongi Hills complex, this market features German-style wooden huts selling festive treats, crafts, and Christmas decorations.
- Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse Christmas Market (Yokohama): This historic warehouse district hosts a lively Christmas market with food stalls, live music, and a festive atmosphere.
- Kyoto Arashiyama Hanatouro (Kyoto): While not a traditional Christmas market, this event features thousands of lanterns lining the Arashiyama district, creating a magical ambiance.
3. Unique Winter Experiences
Apart from the illuminations and markets, Japan offers several unique winter experiences that are not to be missed:
- Zao Snow Monster Festival (Yamagata Prefecture): Witness the stunning "snow monsters" – trees covered in thick layers of frost and snow, creating an otherworldly landscape.
- Hot Spring Resorts: Escape the winter chill and relax in one of Japan's famous hot spring resorts, such as Kusatsu Onsen (Gunma Prefecture) or Kinosaki Onsen (Hyogo Prefecture).
- Ski Resorts: Japan boasts some of the world's best ski resorts, with abundant snowfall and breathtaking mountain scenery. Popular destinations include Niseko (Hokkaido), Hakuba (Nagano Prefecture), and Shiga Kogen (Nagano Prefecture).
Whether you're seeking festive illuminations, traditional Christmas markets, or unique winter experiences, Japan offers an enchanting blend of cultures and traditions during the Christmas season. Plan your itinerary carefully and immerse yourself in the magical atmosphere that Japan has to offer.
