This is where we’d stayed in Rome. Another gem. 15-20 min walk to Vatican and coliseum. In a trendy neighbourhood with lots of restaurants and shops. People were great to deal with. Spoke great English.

We rented the “Mini Suite Corso 12” with:

We actually booked through airbnb but they have a separate website. They were reasonably priced, great hosts (good communication, etc), the apartment was charming, clean & in a great location. Recommend :))

We stayed at the Best Western Premium Santina, right across from the termini station, and Hop on Hop Off bus. They had a lovely buffet breakfast for 3 Euros. Was lovely. We booked tours from home with Walks of Italy, which we quite enjoyed. Loved Rome.

If there is any place that I recommend a hop on/ hop off bus tour, Rome is it. It will take you to all the major sites. It can let you off at Vatican City as well. There I recommend getting a guided tour. They will give you a history lesson, show you the Vatican museum (jaw dropping), Sistine Chapel, St. Peter's Basilica, all kinds of stuff. If you are there at the right time I think you might catch site of the pope. I believe his showings are predictable.

We stayed near termini station to be close to train when coming and going in Rome. We stayed at a bed and breakfast on air bnb, and also stayed at Hotel California, both near termini and reasonable.

Carol lots of cobblestone in Rome and Florence. Unless you’re super sturdy, don’t bother packing heels.. possibly wedges, but it’s all a crapshoot. My heels just added weight and bulk to my suitcase. I never wore them.

Finding Affordable Accommodation in Rome and Florence

Planning a trip to Italy's iconic cities, Rome and Florence, can be an exciting yet daunting task, especially when it comes to finding suitable accommodation within your budget. Fear not, as we've got you covered with some fantastic suggestions for both hotels and vacation rentals.

Rome: Clean and Moderately Priced Hotels for 2 Nights

Rome, the Eternal City, is a treasure trove of historical wonders and vibrant culture. When it comes to hotels, here are a few recommendations that strike a balance between comfort, cleanliness, and affordability:

  1. Hotel Navona Colors: Nestled in the heart of Rome, this charming hotel offers modern amenities and a prime location near the Piazza Navona. Rates typically range from €100 to €180 per night, depending on the season.
  2. Hotel Raphael - Relais & Châteaux: If you're willing to splurge a bit, this luxurious hotel near the Piazza Navona provides an unforgettable experience. Expect to pay around €300 to €500 per night for the exceptional service and amenities.
  3. Hotel Roma Metropole: Located near the Termini Station, this hotel offers comfortable rooms and easy access to public transportation. Rates usually fall between €100 and €200 per night, making it a budget-friendly option.

Florence: Airbnb or Vrbo for 5 Days in May

Florence, the birthplace of the Renaissance, is a treasure trove of art, architecture, and culinary delights. For a more authentic and immersive experience, consider booking a vacation rental through platforms like Airbnb or Vrbo:

  1. Charming Apartment in Santa Croce: This cozy one-bedroom apartment, located in the heart of the Santa Croce neighborhood, offers a quintessential Florentine experience. Rates typically range from €80 to €120 per night, depending on the season.
  2. Modern Loft in the Oltrarno District: If you prefer a more contemporary vibe, this stylish loft in the Oltrarno district might be the perfect fit. Expect to pay around €100 to €150 per night for this spacious and well-appointed rental.
  3. Villa in the Tuscan Countryside: For those seeking a more peaceful retreat, consider renting a villa in the stunning Tuscan countryside just outside Florence. Rates can vary significantly based on the size and amenities, but expect to pay anywhere from €200 to €500 per night for a comfortable villa with breathtaking views.

Remember to book your accommodations well in advance, especially during peak travel seasons, to secure the best rates and availability. Additionally, always read reviews and carefully consider the location and amenities to ensure they align with your preferences and budget.

Regardless of your choice, Rome and Florence offer a wealth of cultural experiences and opportunities for unforgettable memories. Enjoy your time in these iconic Italian cities!
