It will be interesting travelling with a three year old. How many galleries, cathedrals, ancient ruins will a three year old be able to do? We loved Venice and the canals and boats should be of interest, and maybe some of the architecture and modern art and traditional galleries. Tuscany (with Florence, Sienna, San Gimignano, etc.) offers great vistas, art, food and wine. Rome, with its ancient monuments, Vatican, Borghese Gallery...., is a must. Again, it depends on the three year old how much you will be able to do. We love Sorrento - boat trip to Capri, bus tour down the Amalfi Coast, day trip to Pompeii, and a great city to walk around.

Thank You Ron ! ... We re definitely staying in Rome for 4days and want to travel south to Sorrento for a day trip if possible? Then take a train to Florence and stay there for 3days. From Florence we were thinking going to the Tuscany coast to Viareggio and stay there for about 4 days and take a day trip to Pisa? We still debating about Venice? We have travelled with my daughter last year who was almost 2 at the time to Madrid and Nice. She was Ok for the most part as we had her in a good stroller with food. It will be a challenge but We ll see....lol....Is train the best way to travel from point A to B or do you recommend bus or rent a car .....?

You will have an amazing time with little Isla...the mini world traveler ♡♡♡

I recommend renting a car to explore Tuscany. Just so much more freedom to explore the countryside and all the villages and towns. We did a mix of planes, trains, and busses for longer distances. A day trip to Sorrento might not work well. Travelling there and back would take a fair bit of the day. This trip it might be better to add that day to Florence or the Tuscan coast. Btw, we stayed in Volterra and explored Tuscany from there.

Thanks Andrea and Ron ! ...Yes, I'm looking forward to great food....and chocolate croissants .and want to try some seafood too...thanks for all the tips. Renting a car in Tuscany sounds good to me. I'm hoping to get some beach time in mid April, weather won't be hot but good enough for us who lives in Canada. I'm stoked for this trip....

If you are able hop on the train at la spezia and go to cinque Terre! Its an amazing place with beautiful scenery. It's five different islands and you can either train in between them or do a hike

THEN THAT SAME DAY JUNE 29 flightcentre had a SALE for $100.00 OFF per person- SOO I went in person to flight centre gave them my dates and price and I asked if they can take the $100.00 per person on top of the sale price which they DID.... !! thats How I got it for $1700.00 for 3 - It was a matter of timing. When YEGDEALS has sales take them bc they end within 48hrs..I have noticed...

Must-See Places in Italy During April with a 3-Year-Old

Congratulations on booking your trip to Italy! With its rich history, stunning architecture, and delectable cuisine, Italy is a fantastic destination for families. April is an excellent time to visit, as the weather is pleasant, and you'll beat the peak summer crowds. Here are some must-visit places to consider for your two-week itinerary, keeping in mind the needs of your 3-year-old.

Rome

Since you're starting in Rome, it's a must to explore the Eternal City's iconic landmarks. The Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, and the Vatican City (with the Sistine Chapel) are must-sees. However, be prepared for crowds during the Easter weekend. Consider booking skip-the-line tickets in advance to save time and keep your little one entertained.

Florence

Florence is a true gem, with its Renaissance art and architecture. Visit the Duomo (Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore), the Galleria dell'Accademia (home to Michelangelo's David), and the Piazza della Signoria. Don't forget to indulge in some delicious gelato!

Venice

The canals and gondolas of Venice are sure to captivate your 3-year-old. Take a gondola ride through the Grand Canal, visit St. Mark's Square, and explore the charming narrow streets and bridges. Be prepared for lots of walking, so comfortable shoes are a must.

Cinque Terre

If you're looking for a more relaxed pace, consider visiting the picturesque Cinque Terre region. These five coastal villages offer stunning scenery, colorful houses, and opportunities for easy hikes along the trails connecting the villages.

Tuscany

No trip to Italy is complete without exploring the rolling hills and vineyards of Tuscany. Base yourself in a town like Siena or San Gimignano, and take day trips to nearby villages and wineries. Your 3-year-old will love the open spaces and playgrounds.

Tips for Traveling with a 3-Year-Old

  • Pack snacks, toys, and activities to keep your little one entertained during downtimes.
  • Book family-friendly accommodations with amenities like pools or playgrounds.
  • Plan for breaks and nap times to avoid over-exhaustion.
  • Consider private tours or skip-the-line tickets to maximize your time and minimize waiting.

Italy is a fantastic destination for families, offering a perfect blend of history, culture, and natural beauty. With careful planning and consideration for your 3-year-old's needs, you're sure to create lasting memories during your two-week Italian adventure.
