One of my favorite places in Europe. It is a must do destination. NH Hotels are nice affordable. NH Collection Barcelona Gran Hotel Calderón. Soho Hotel is off the beaten path but quiet and on the subway line.

Love it ! Been there a few times, you can take a bus from the airport to Barcelona (safes you money and it's super easy)
Also make sure you buy your tourist tickets on advance if doing in high season otherwise you have to line up and don't be able to get in until specific times, for la sagrada familia, Park Güell and other.

We just came back from Barcelona - one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, has everything - culture, history, beach. It is also very safe. You don't need a vehicle, purchase HOLA card for public transit. Loved it and will be back for sure.

2010 4 days after Spain won Euro. Stayed in La Ramblas. A lot of foot traffic and tourist busses. A lot of pickpocketing potential. Merchants were friendly. Streets smelled like garbage, not in an offensive way but like how Toronto and NYC innercity blocks have trash on the curbs. Food was mainly tapas and North American themed buffets. Have fun on your trip!

Invest in a good pack safe purse and products. Lots of pick pocketing

I used a Pacsafe for all my Europe travels and never had issues with pickpockets (probably because I used a Pacsafe lol). I got mine at MEC downtown and paid the extra $5 for an additional pocket on the purse style bag. I fit my camera, video camera, extra lens, wallet, phone, and a few small accessories with it. When I sat down at a restaurant, I'd attach the bag to my chair and lock the built in lock on the strap.

Totally fun. Totally safe. Totally beautiful.
Just walk and use the train system. It's super easy.

I second what many others have said - we really enjoyed the Gaudi sites. I recommend booking ahead for the English tour at the Sagrada Familia - so good. Also really enjoyed La Pedrea and Parc Guell. We stayed near Placa de Catalunya as well, right in the thick of things. We could walk most everywhere from there. I don't remember the name of the building - Palau Musica? Beautiful concert hall with amazing decor - also took in a Spanish guitar concert there. Enjoyed the Picasso museum. And then just walking and walking, through the Gothic quarter, Ramblas, beaches. If you are into cuisine, there are tremendously good cutting edge restaurants - with very decent prices. Highly recommend Tickets - book three months in advance. And Disfrutar - exceptional meals.

Watch out for the Taxis they are crooked as hell.

I loved Barcelona, was there for 3 nights 4 days, and stayed just of Las Ramblas, spent the days exploring the city, and beach. The food is incredible and the best way to get around is either rent a bike or walk, I find walking burns off the extra calories from all the food I consumed. There are some great wineries outside of Barcelona - great tip!

I absolutely loved that city: it has everything: beach, city, history, do not eat at Las ramblas: non-authentic overpriced food and drinks. Go to side streets! I would visit park Guell, and enjoy the city!

the Gaudi sites were outstanding. It is a big city and sometimes overwhelming I used some viator tours and booked some Gaudi sites on my own.

The sangria has way more alcohol in it than you expect
