Should we choose Poland over Paris for a trip if we don't speak Polish?

If you are in Krakow or Warsaw, almost everybody speaks English. I highly recommend Krakow if you haven't been to Poland before, it is beautiful, there are many great things to visit(Wawel castle, or a tour to the Wieliczka salt mine), and SO much delicious Polish food. I was just in Krakow -- it is truly wonderful

We stayed in Kraków. It's wonderful. We did a day trip to Auschwitz. It was one of the most memorable visits of my life.

100% Krakow with day trips to the Salt Mines and Auschwitz...I'm originally from there and your dollar will go way way further in Poland than Paris...I've been to Paris many times as well and it's not for the budget savvy, that said I've been to more expensive places in Europe (ie: London and Scandinavia)...have fun
Lana
Agree with Krakow. And the sidetrips. Everyone spoke some degree of English too
Diane
Gratitude's to everyone.

What hotel did you stay at in Krakow?

I just had a fella telling me about his trip to Poland and Italy (his wife is Polish and he is Italian). He said he saved thousands by booking the Italian portion of their trip at a polish travel agency. Perhaps excursions to Paris would be equally discounted.
Mike
You don't need any Polish in Poland, way cheaper than France. Stayed in way smaller cities than Krakow and wasn't a problem
Leigh
I'd love to go to Poland, I've heard nothing but good things, it's cheap and the Poles are the life of the party. Such nice people!!
Mel
I really didnt like France that much but thats just my opinion. I never really had a desire to go to Poland but when I went I was blown away. Krakow is an incredible place. One of my favorite places I have been. It's cheap, the food is soooo good and the city is so beautiful. Much preferred over Paris. I would recommend going to Auschwitz as well. You can catch a pretty cheap shuttle from the square in Krakow to Auschwirz and it's a 45mins to an hour long drive. Highly recommended! I have heard people say the salt mines are incredible too, but I never got the chance to see it in person.
If you go to Paris I recommend the Palace of Versailles...about an hour away from Paris. One of the most beautiful pieces of architecture I have ever seen. Definitely worth the trip.
Neil
I would do both. Stay at a cheaper vrbo or airbnb in Paris and stay away from pricey restaurants. Lots of good inexpensive restaurants and markets to save money. We were in Paris last May and loved it!! Then hop a train to Poland. Train prices are reasonable.

Exploring Poland on a Budget: A Delightful Alternative to Paris
Dear fellow travelers, if you're looking for an affordable and culturally rich destination, Poland might just be the perfect choice for you and your daughter. With the Canadian dollar stretching further in this enchanting country, you can indulge in unforgettable experiences without breaking the bank.
The Charm of Poland
Poland is a hidden gem that offers a captivating blend of historical grandeur, vibrant cities, and stunning natural landscapes. From the charming streets of Krakow to the picturesque Tatra Mountains, this country will leave you in awe at every turn.
Krakow: A Gem in the Heart of Poland
Krakow, the former capital of Poland, is a must-visit destination. Its Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a living museum with its medieval architecture, grand churches, and lively market square. Explore the iconic Wawel Castle, stroll through the bustling Cloth Hall, and soak in the lively atmosphere of Kazimierz, the city's historic Jewish quarter.
Warsaw: Resilience and Modernity
Warsaw, the capital of Poland, has risen from the ashes of World War II and emerged as a vibrant, modern city. Explore the Old Town, a meticulously reconstructed gem, and visit the iconic Palace of Culture and Science. Don't miss the Warsaw Uprising Museum, a poignant tribute to the city's resilience.
Language Barrier? No Problem!
While neither you nor your daughter speaks Polish, the language barrier shouldn't deter you from experiencing the magic of Poland. Many locals, especially in tourist areas, have a good command of English, and your daughter's proficiency in French might also come in handy. Additionally, guidebooks, phrasebooks, and translation apps can be invaluable resources during your journey.
Embracing the Local Culture
Poland offers a rich cultural tapestry that will captivate you at every turn. Indulge in the delectable Polish cuisine, from hearty borscht and pierogi to mouth-watering kielbasa sausages. Attend traditional folk festivals, where you can witness vibrant dances, music, and costumes that have been passed down through generations.
Cost Considerations
Compared to Paris, Poland is considerably more budget-friendly. Accommodation, dining, and transportation costs are relatively low, allowing you to stretch your Canadian dollars further. This means you can indulge in more activities, experiences, and souvenirs without worrying about overspending.
Whether you explore the enchanting cities, immerse yourself in the rich history, or marvel at the natural wonders, Poland promises an unforgettable adventure. So, embrace the opportunity to discover this hidden gem and create lasting memories with your daughter.
Pack your bags, open your hearts, and get ready to fall in love with the magic of Poland!

My daughter & I are going to Paris in May. Because of a tight budget and the fact that my ancestors were Polish, someone suggested Poland . A Canadian dollar can go further in Poland. Anyone gone there with recommendations. My daughter speaks French. Neither of us speak Polish.
