Can I Book Hotels and Transportation on Airbnb in Europe?

Question:

Okay this may be a silly question but I'm going to ask it anyway. I will be in Europe for 5.5 weeks. I want to be able to book some airbnb locations once I'm in Europe because I'm not set on where I will be when. That said, when I go onto the airbnb site will I be able to book hotels, transportation etc as though I'm booking from Canada? Like, will it automatically be payable only in Euros? I know when I have travelled previously for example I can't use Netflix in the Caribbean although I have an account because it doesn't recognize it from the location. Hope my question makes sense.

Yeah.. the airbnb website is accessible whereever. Netflix doesn't work because it has regional restrictions and isn't offered in the Carribean.

We used easytobook.com and it was the same as using from home. In Barcelona we wanted to extend our stay but the hotel wanted a higher rate. They let me log on through their computer and book it at the lesser rate

As long as you're at airbnb.ca (emphasis on the .ca) - you will be paying in $CAD when you book, just like you would at home. I think once you log in, and make any sort of search, you are actually redirected to the Canadian 'version' of airbnb (airbnb.ca), no matter what, even if you start your search at, say, airbnb.co.uk
All of the different country 'versions' of the airbnb site (airbnb.com in the US, airbnb.co.uk in the UK, etc, etc) have the same listings, and the prices are actually identical, they're just being automatically converted into your currency for display.

Barcelona we stayed at Hotel Praktik Garden,
Carrer de la Diputació, 325, 08009 Barcelona. It is definitely not fancy but had a comfortable bed, was clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. Only a few blocks from the main square, we took the bus from the airport and walked to the hotel. It was quite reasonably priced via Easytobook.com. They don't have a restaurant but do offer a breakfast package. There are lots of restaurants in the area.

I can't really recommend any airbnbs as it sounds like you have a car. Make sure that the places you book on airbnb have access to parking. The best places to stay generally are in the city centre where parking is scarce or expensive.

Where would I find apartments for 5 day stints Don?

Diane, in Amsterdam we rented apartments for 2-5 days through the link I posted above. We found a lovely one in Brugges Belgium for 5 days that was phenomenal and cheaper than the hotel we left in Holland on or way there.

Using Airbnb for Travel in Europe

This is a great question, and it's not silly at all! When you're planning to travel abroad, it's essential to understand how services like Airbnb will work in different countries. Here's what you need to know about using Airbnb in Europe:

Currency and Payment

When you're browsing Airbnb listings in Europe, the prices will be displayed in the local currency (e.g., Euros for countries in the Eurozone, Pounds for the UK, etc.). However, your payment method (credit card or PayPal) will be charged in your home currency (Canadian dollars in your case).

Airbnb automatically handles the currency conversion based on the current exchange rates. This means that you won't have to worry about converting currencies manually or paying in a different currency. Your credit card statement will show the charge in Canadian dollars, with the conversion rate applied by your card issuer.

Location and Availability

Unlike some services like Netflix, which may restrict content based on your location, Airbnb is designed for international travel. When you access the Airbnb website or app from a different country, it will automatically detect your location and show you listings in that area.

So, when you arrive in Europe, you can simply open the Airbnb app or website and search for accommodations in the cities or regions you plan to visit. You'll be able to see the availability and pricing for those locations, just as you would if you were booking from Canada.

Additional Services

In addition to booking accommodations, Airbnb also offers the option to book experiences and activities in various destinations. These can include tours, classes, or other local experiences hosted by locals. While browsing from Europe, you'll be able to see and book these additional services as well, just as you would from Canada.

However, it's important to note that Airbnb does not currently offer transportation booking services like flights or rental cars. For those, you'll need to use separate travel booking platforms or services.

Overall, using Airbnb while traveling in Europe should be a seamless experience. Just make sure to have a valid payment method linked to your account, and you'll be able to book accommodations, experiences, and activities as you explore different cities and countries.
