I will be spending an extensive time in Great Britain- I have been through much of Italy (Milan included). Although from Spain, I am hoping to hit the southern coast because I missed it on the last adventure. I'm just looking for those hidden gems, places that brought you piles of joy for any reason at all. I enjoy the beauty and the culture, as well as the history. Keep them coming!
Marie
South of France
Amanda
I Ioved Milan. Best people watching. To each their own.
Robyn
Venice (actually ALL of italy) and spend a good month in greece!!!!! (Europe with a Mediterranean twist)
Chelsea
I enjoyed it too! To each their own is right- which is why I'm really looking into all of the 'nooks and crannies' that Europe has to offer.
Amanda
I think all cities have something to offer you just need to find it which often means going off the beaten path.
Chelsea
I agree! There are so many places that get passed by. It's a tough decision... and it might be a while before I head back. There's so many places to see!
Bernard
Algarve Portugal
cheap beautiful nice people. There are roman ruins and lots of history involved.
Chelsea
Portugal is definitely on the list! It looks spectacular!
Bernard
It is by far my favorite place in europe. Mind you I have spent maybe a month in total exploring so there are a lot of places I too need to explore.
Chelsea
I have only done France and Italy. I need to do so much more exploring!
Chelsea
I know this sounds odd- but if anyone has any connection or family or hostels in particular... let me know (if that's not too weird). I'm always up for meeting new people in true back-packer fashion. It makes travelling so fun!
Lisa
My absolute fav place was Prague! It is so beautiful! Zagreb is also great and I also loved Budapest! The bathhouses are great!
Bernard
I hear ya. Portugal spain and amsterdam were the majority I spent a few days in france and belgium. I regret not spending longer in belgium.

Amanda
So many amazing places to go. I always love hearing and seeing pics of peoples adventures. Portugal is definitely on the list. Next trip though will be a road trip from Amsterdam to Hvar.
Chelsea
That looks amazing! I've read all about it!
Chelsea
I actually contemplated following it in sections as I move up through Europe. So many good sights to see!
Chelsea
I know right! aah Would any of you avid travellers be willing to meet up and tell me about your experiences? It is so tough and I only have a bit of time to plan all of this!
Chelsea
Good to know. I'll have to look that up. The last time I was in Europe, I was with a huge group. It was great for a first time there. After hosteling in Ecuador for a month, I feel like that would be the way to go.
Laurie
Portoroz and Lake Bled in Slovenia.
Linda
Saint Petersberg!
Chelsea
Minimum three months. I am a teacher now too- so I am hoping to do a solid month (starting in Barcelona- heading along the southern coast along to Greece, then up through to Budapest and through Poland, catch Germany and Belgium), then teach in London for some time (hopefully a few months but that is still getting organized and will include much time in all of Great Britain), then heading back down through Portugal and Gibraltar, only to finish up ending my round trip back in Barcelona. But, the planning stages have only just begun! I am so pumped- and thank each and every one of you for the ideas. Keep them coming!
June
Paris, my fave, Venice, Florence, Berlin
Kerry
If you're down in the Gibraltar/Estapona area, do not do a day trip to Tangiers - Morocco. It's sold as a tour but they just try to sell you stuff all day. I hear Morocco is awesome, if you get out of Tangiers. I haven't seen enough of Europe to give a top 5. I hear Prague is totally awesome (from a friend that backpacked Europe for 3 years said Prague was her favourite place) and I really liked Amsterdam.

I was in Rome for 30 days with 23 other people and not one of us got pickpocketed or scammed, that reputation is undeserving, same with the snobby reputation France has, not true.
Krystal
Since you have mentioned that you will visit Souther Spain, I must recommend Ronda - a hidden gem that is not too too far from the coast (90 mins from Malaga). This is a smaller city, but it is incredibly beautiful - even just the drive there will be a great sight! From there, Gibraltar and Grenada are not too far, either. http://www.tripadvisor.ca/Tourism-g265784-Ronda_Costa_del...
Krystal
Another hidden gem: Mazarron Gun Batteries of Castillito (minutes from Cartagena on the coast - southeast). When my husband and I were there, we didn't have to pay anything. The views are amazing, and the abandoned military base was one of the highlights of our trip. If you are adventurous, explore the underground passages (with lights and proper safety measures in mind). http://www.tripadvisor.ca/Attraction_Review-g187517...
Shawna
Dubrovnik, Croatia. Venice, Rome, Naples, Lille, France (Vimy Ridge)
Basia
Go somewhere that is NOT sooo touristy but just as beautiful. Poland. It is gorgeous, lots to see and do but way CHEAPER')
Chelsea
I have been looking up all of these places and they looks so amazing! Thank you all so much!
Carmen-o
Ok reading all these comments only reinforce s my plans for Portugal or Spain next spring.
Chelsea
Yes! That's how I'm hoping to end my trip- from Great Britain, Portugal, Gibraltar, and back up through Spain!
Shawna
Surprisingly, the most amazing places I found in Europe was Slovenia and Croatia and Bosnia.
Unbelievable beautiful.
Amanda
Croatia is amazing. Dubrovnik is a popular destination and is very nice but it's a drop in the bucket in the beauty of the coast. Also Plitvice National Park is truely magical.
Whitney
Venice and Rome!
