Our India trip was cancelled and we now have a credit with klm. We are thinking of traveling sometime between the middle of May to middle of June. We would like to plan a trip to the south of France, southern Italy or Portugal. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions? Thanks!

Would recommend portugal! We did lisbon, porto, and sintra and had a fabulous time! The food, sights and people were all amazing! Can't recommend it enough!

I have to agree with others. Portugal is wonderful!! We stay in the algarve and drove to Sintra and a few other places. Absolutely beautiful and so full of history.

I had the most incredible guide, recommended by Rick Steves for the French Riviera. Picked us up at our hotel. Totally worth it! She knew all the places to skip and all the places to go to! And if you get the chance, go to the Dordogne region in France. Land of a thousand castles. Also had a guide recommended by Rick Steves guidebook and he was incredible as well. I would recommend planning your own holiday anytime over a tour. We said no museums and churches. Of course we did see some but on a tour, it’s hours and hours at each even if you aren’t interested. Totally tailored to you when you get your own guide. And we stayed at hotels recommended by Rick Steves as well and they were top notch incredible. This year we are going to Cinque Terre and Lake Como as part of our journey and staying in Agriturismo’s. Kind of like an Italian farm vacation.

Portugal, and include the Madeira Islands!

If you have a month and going to Portugal, I would suggest visiting both Spain (squeeze in Tangier, Morocco as well) and Portugal.

Wow! This question came up at the right time for me as we were planning to go mid-May to Algarve Portugal and then on to Ireland for a family reunion. Love to hear more about Portugal and especially Algarve as that's where we're thinking of staying.

Southern Italy is beautiful. Check out Bari, BrindisiAlberobello, Locorotondo, Calabria, Sicily. See beautiful parts of Italy that most tourists never see. It’s easy to drive once you get there. The area just East of Venice is also amazing, Friulli and Trieste.

In May, we did Spain, Morrocco, Portugal all together. Was hot, especially Spain (40's). Loved all of them. Lisbon was a pretty city. Go see some dancing and visit the gypsy caves! Rock of Gibralter and countryside along the coast is scenic. Southern Italy, we loved Venice and Trieste. France, have only visited Paris but my friend travels all over France and her videos and pics look dreamy. Have fun!!

Chelle Gibraltar was a highlight of our trip. We did the trip via bus up the Rock and it was really spectacular. When the guide found out we were Canadian, we were treated like royalty. If it wasn't for us, they wouldn't have been able to dig the rock out. Fabulous tour.

Tavira is a beautiful spot to see in the Algarve.
